tips | Upgrading to a DSLRIs your current point and shoot camera not giving you the quality pictures you desire? Are you finding it difficult to capture perfect action shots? A point and shoot camera may seem more convenient, but here are some reasons to upgrade to a DSLR:
Image Quality – DSLRs contain large image sensors (up to 25 times larger than a point and shoot camera) allowing for larger pixel sizes. The more pixels that are captured by the image sensor, the clearer and more detailed a photo will be.
Speed – Start up, focus and lag time are much faster in a DSLR letting you take photos quickly so you don’t miss out on the moment or the action.
ISO range – DSLRs have a larger ISO range which lends itself to adaptability and versatility in different shooting situations.
Lenses and Accessories – A variety of high quality lenses (from wide angle to super long focal lengths) are available with a DSLR. This opens up a world of possibilities for photographers. You can also add different accessories such as filters, flashes, etc. that will allow you to take great pictures in many different situations.
Optical Viewfinder – A DSLR’s optical viewfinder more accurately displays the colour and sharpness of an image than a LCD screen. What you see is what you get. This is why most DSLR cameras are equipped with both an optical viewfinder and a LCD screen.
Manual Controls – You can shoot in either auto mode or manual mode. Manual controls are built-in and easy-to-use on the fly offering better and quicker control of the situation.
Depth of Field – Adjusting the depth of field allows you to control what part of the photo you want to focus on. For example, you can focus solely on the subject while slightly blurring out the background.
Better Optics – The optics of a DLSR lens is superior to that of a point and shoot camera. Remember to buy the best quality lens that you can afford.
Upgrading to a DSLR camera is the perfect choice for those who are looking for wider functionality and versatility when it comes to shooting conditions and controls. Check with the experts at your local foto source to find out what camera is best suited to meet your budget and needs.

travel | Friday the 13th in Port Dover, ON - Mark your calendar, because this is an event like no other! Each Friday the 13th throughout the year, over 50,000 motorcycle riders and 200,000 enthusiasts gather in the small fishing village of Port Dover, Ontario. During this event, this town goes from a population of 5,500 to over 250,000. People come from everywhere making it one of the largest biking events.
It all started in 1971, when Chris Simons received his first motorcycle from his father and began developing a life-long passion for bikes. He owned a bike shop in Port Dover called “Biker’s Delight”. On November 13, 1971, Chris and a group of approximately 25 friends on their bikes got together at the Commercial Hotel (now known at Angelos of Dover). They had such a great time that they decided to make it a tradition and do it every Friday the 13th.
Through word of mouth, more and more people began finding out about this event. Over the years, the attendance has continued to increase making it the event it is today.
